Ethiopia may stand trial for genocide

Smuggled films will be used to prove the killings, torture and rape.

Martin Schibbye and Johan Persson had to experience for themselves the Ethiopian regime’s brutality when they were captured in the Ogaden province. Although Ethiopia is not in the International Criminal Court , ICC , the country can now possibly face trial for crimes under international law .
Thanks to Sweden .
The Ethiopian refugee Abdullahi Hussein smuggled out over 100 hours of footage from the Ogaden province. Movies under Hussein contain evidence of genocide, rape and torture . Moreover, the films how Ethiopian military treats the Swedish journalists Martin Schibbye and Johan Persson.

Now he submits material to the Swedish police .
To help them, he Stellan Gärde, Swedish lawyer and a commissioner of the International Commission of Jurists , which ensures that the movies end up with the Swedish International Public Prosecution Office and the Swedish War Crimes Commission .
The Government will consider whether there is an interest in investigating the crime in Sweden . But the case may also be referred to the International Criminal Court, ICC .
Since Sweden is a member of the ICC and crimes such issues as Swedish citizens can target driven away although Ethiopia does not recognize the court.
Parts of the film material has been shown in the documentary captures the dictatorship that was shown on SVT on Monday and on SVTPlay up to and including 12 January 2014.
